High-quality free television (including broadcaster services) is now widely available via apps on a range of Smart TV and other connected TV devices with a good user experience. So, as more consumers stream more of the time, what role is there for broadcast free-to-air platforms that were created in the 00s to ensure a first-class multichannel television CX in free homes? This presentation explores how European FTA aggregators remain relevant during the rest of the 2020s – and if they have a future beyond terrestrial spectrum switch-off. Richard will review the headline patterns in uptake of streaming services, and what that means for FTA platforms. He reviews how consumers are mixing-and-matching subscription streaming, free streaming and free broadcast TV – and how this influences what platforms need to offer.
