Description

Ras Kwame’s knowledge and influence on the UK music scene is undisputed. Responsible for producing massive garage anthems such as ‘Bump and Grind’ featuring Lady Saw and the underground smash ‘Body Killin’ by The Vincent Alvis Project early in his career, the award-winning producer quickly became renowned in the urban scene. Since, as the curator and DJ for UK-renowned radio show brands at BBC 1Xtra and Capital Xtra, he has become a driving force in encouraging UK’s new music talent, including discovering acts such as Emeli Sande. In this interview with Lydia Amoah, founder, BACKLIGHT, we’ll get a private insight into Ras’ best career stories through a series of his favourite photos. We’ll hear what he’s learnt from artists he’s met along the way, who he sees as the most influential people on his career, the defining moments he will remember forever, plus what it’s really like being a radio presenter in today’s media environment. We’ll also hear his take on the future of the music industry, including what impact new technology such as AI might have on the people and artists who make music their life!
