Freely, the next-generation free-to-air platform backed by the BBC, ITV, Channel 4 and 5, includes over 70 linear streaming channels* and is integrated with multiple Smart TV operating systems. Towards the end of 2025 the service was made available on its first plug-in streaming device. This discussion explores the technology challenges when creating a multichannel streaming service that allows a broadcast version of a channel to share the same Logical Channel Number in the programme guide. We hear why every channel owner agrees to share a single, common player, and how fast channel change is supported in the streaming environment.
